Heather L. Sunderman is a graduate, cum laude, of American University’s Washington College of Law. She also attended Duquesne University School of Law for one year as the recipient of a full scholarship.
She was admitted to practice in Maryland in 2003. She regularly participates in Continuing Legal Education programs to keep up with the constant changes in the law.
Heather received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Allegheny College, in Meadville, Pennsylvania, with a major in History and a minor in Geology. She was a member of Phi Alpha Theta, a history honor society. She also completed 900 hours of community service through the Americorps Bonner Leader program. Her community service program included providing swimming lessons to low-income children, teaching preschool, and assisting in fundraising for the YWCA.
Before starting her own practice, Heather was previously an Associate in the firm Lynne K. Zusman and Associates, P.C. in Washington, D.C., where she focused on family law, contract law, business law, and employment law.
While in law school, Heather worked as a legal intern in the Office of General Law of the United States Coast Guard, where she worked in the areas of employment law and administrative law. Her primary duties included legal research and drafting motions and briefs in employment discrimination matters. She also participated in externships with the Coast Alliance and the Center for Food Safety, working in the areas of administrative law and environmental law.
Heather is a member of the Maryland State Bar Association, the Bar Association of Montgomery County, and has been an Associate member of the Montgomery County Inn of Court. She has also served as a section liaison for the Family Law section of the Bar Association of Montgomery County.
Heather, who originally hails from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, lives in Rockville, Maryland, with her husband and daughter.
